Workshop appropriate for ages 10 and up. Glues, hot glue guns, paint, small parts and cutting make this workshop not ideal for young children. Younger children attending workshop should have a parent helper. During this workshop, participants are guided through the steps to make sock puppets. While sock puppets seem like kid's play, the use of sock puppets, such as Lamb Chop, have been famous. Creating characters is the best part of making puppets...and that's more than just the mechanics of creating a mouth, adding eyes and hair. Characters can be human or more critter-like. Monsters are also popular! Participants' imaginations are the only limiting factors. This workshop takes approximately 2 hours, including an hour to work on the puppet play. The play is introduced through a storyboard, so each play is unique. No memorization of lines is needed. Each participant uses their unique character to create their own lines. Performance is approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on the number of participants. The play has been created in such a way that any number of puppet characters can be accommodated. This performance can happen as the Story for All Ages during a Service or as an evening show with refreshments or presented at the end of the workshop. Many options can be discussed. Workshop and Performance are both negotiable to fit your needs. Workshop costs: $125 (basic workshop and performance as described above), plus travel costs, including lodging if required due to distance and/or time frames for workshop and performance. There are costs for creating the puppets, as well. Workshop participant supplies: $10 per participant. All materials and equipment are supplied, unless otherwise negotiated. A portable puppet theatre is part of the equipment supplied (when appropriate). Sound systems, however, are not. These can be rented locally, if adequate sound at performance site is not available. Please e-mail Connie Dunn at connie_dunn@hotmail.com or call her at 508-446-1711. Each workshop is tailored to fit your needs. Modified Sock WorkshopThis workshop uses markers and canvass puppets and is appropriate for younger children. This workshop is usually combined with a children's party. Blacklight Puppet WorkshopWorkshop appropriate for ages 10 and up. Glues, hot glue guns, paint, small parts and cutting make this workshop not ideal for young children. Younger children attending workshop should have a parent helper.During this workshop, participants create cool blacklight-enhanced puppets. Because blacklight requires that materials are UV re-active, special paints, fabric and yarns are used to create these puppets. Similar to sock puppets, a base puppet is provided, but many other elements are required, such as eyes, mouth, hair and lots of personality! Because this workshop is designed to focus on more of the performance techniques, it is designed for those who are looking seriously at performing puppets. This is a good workshop for a group wanting to start a puppet ministry. Youth and adults will also learn how to work and respect each other in a fun way! During this workshop, participants learn how to work with puppets, stage a performance, touch on lighting and sound (however, sound and lighting is not the focus of this workshop), and feel more confident about their abilities to use puppets. This is not a workshop on ventriloquism or puppet creation. The focus of this workshop is on creating a character using your voice and puppet manipulation. This workshop takes approximately 2 hours, including an hour to work on a puppet play, which uses the techniques learned in the first half of the workshop. The play is introduced through a storyboard, so each play is unique. No memorization of lines is needed. Each participant uses their unique character to create their own lines. Performance is approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on the number of participants. The play has been created in such a way that any number of puppet characters can be accommodated. Workshop and Performance are both negotiable to fit your needs. Workshop costs: $125 (basic workshop and performance as described above), plus travel costs, including lodging if required due to distance and/or time frames for workshop and performance. If puppets also have to be shipped, those costs would also be included in the fee. All puppets and equipment are supplied, unless otherwise negotiated. A portable puppet theatre is part of the equipment supplied (when appropriate). Sound systems, however, are not. These can be rented locally, if adequate sound at performance site is not available. Professional Handmade Puppet WorkshopWorkshop appropriate for ages 16 and up. This workshop is designed to focus on the creation of puppets rather than the techniques of puppeteering. This is an excellent workshop for older youth and adults who are interested in building puppets. However, teenagers attending this workshop should have some basic sewing knowledge. We will be both cutting and sewing in this workshop. Wewill be making somewhat basic-designed puppets, some people call this style of puppet, the "glorified sock puppets (please see pattern for sale at One Way Street Puppets - http://www.onewaystreet.com," which does not involve starting with socks at all. In fact, we start with flat fabric. However, we will discuss some other forms of handmade puppetry, including the freehand style of puppet creation and become aware of other patterns available for making critters and people with moveable mouths. Workshop costs: $200 (basic workshop fee), plus travel costs, including lodging if required due to distance and/or time frames for workshop and performance. This is a 6-hour workshop with an hour break for lunch. Participants can either bring lunch or a small additional fee can be added to cover the costs of ordering lunch from some nearby restaurant. All puppet materials and equipment are supplied, unless otherwise negotiated. Sewing is all done by hand. But there is a supply fee of $35 per participant.
